KNITTING 101
Friday, April, 26th OR Tues, May, 21st OR Friday, June 28th 6:30-830 (Two hours total – three class times to choose from) If you have never knit before and want to get started, this is the class for you! We will learn the basics – the knit stitch, the purl stitch and how to cast on and off – and talk about different ways of knitting and terminology. A light coloured worsted or Aran weight yarn in is recommended, plus needles to match – come by for suggestions! $40.00 plus materials.*

Friday, May 31st OR Tuesday, June 25th, 6:30-8:30pm (Two hours total – two class times to choose from) Have you learned the basics of knitting and purling but are stumped by how to read a pattern? Do you find yourself asking questions such as what is an ssk? A kfb? How do I pick up stitches? This is the class designed for a beginner who is ready to start working with patterns and learn about how knitting is shaped through increases and decreases. Please bring to class any questions you have about patterns, patterns you might like to try, as well as some worsted or aran weight yarn with appropriate size needles for a practice swatch. $40.00 plus materials. YARN KNOWLEDGE
Tuesday, June 18th, 6:30-8:30pm Have you ever started a project and been confused as how to pick out the right yarn? In this class we will discuss how to read a yarn label and what yarn “weights” mean. With this knowledge, you will be well on your way to being able to substitute yarn in a pattern. We will also talk about different types of fibre and answer questions including what is merino? Is there a difference between llama and alpaca? What fibre should I use for particular projects? You will have a chance to sample several types of fibre and ask your yarn questions. $40.

INTRODUCTION TO CABLES
Friday, May 17th, 6:30-8:30pm Are you intimidated by cables? In this class we will revel a knitter’s secret... cables are easy! Perfect for knitters who can knit, purl, cast on, and off, we will learn the basics of cables and get you started on the Antler hat, a perfect toque! INTRODUCTION TO FAIR ISLE
Friday, June 14th , 6:30-8:30pm; Fair isle or stranded colourwork is a technique in which two yarns are used at once to develop patterns in your knitting. This class will help you get on your way to discovering how fun working with two or more colours can be! You will make a sampler cup cozy using two colours and learn how to hold your yarn, manage tension and carry stitches. Materials: fingering weight yarn in 2 colours, 3.25 mm needle for working in the round. $40.00; materials sold separately.

INTRODUCTION TO ENTRELAC
Friday, May 10th, 6:30-8:30pm Intrigued by the look of entrelac but put off by its complex appearance? We will break down this directional technique block by block so you can achieve stunning basketweave texture in your knits. End the class with the beginnings of a headband perfect for transitional seasons. For this class you should know how to knit , purl increase, decrease, and pick up stitches. For this class it is recommended that you use Noro Silk Garden or another worsted weight yarn with long colour repeats. $40.00 plus materials.

INTRODUCTION TO LACE
Tuesday, May 7th, 6:30-8:30pm If you are interested in learning how to knit lace patterns this class is for you! We will demystify the intricacy of this technique and discuss how simple stitches are combined to create beautiful patterns. We will learn to read charts and written patterns while starting a beautiful lace headband. We recommend choosing a fingering weight or heavier yarn. $40.00 includes pattern; other materials sold separately.

SMOCKED CUP COZY
Tuesday, May 28th, 6:30-8:30pm; Do you like the look of smocked stitches but unsure of how to create them? In this class we will make a smocked cup cozy to sample this technique. This quick project is a stylish and eco-friendly way to keep your hands from burning while holding your favourite hot beverage. Come into the store to see samples of how these stitches can be used in various projects, including sweaters. Recommended yarn is 1 skein of Grignasco Loden or another aran weight yarn and 4.5 mm needles for working in the round. $40, includes pattern; other materials sold separately.

TOP DOWN BABY SWEATER
Friday, June 7th AND Friday, June 21st, 6:30-8:30pm; (Four hours total) Interested in top down sweater construction but don’t know where to start? This technique allows you to knit a versatile sweater without seams. In this two session class we will knit the Baby Sophisticate cardigan. Knits for children are a great way to practice new techniques without the cost and time taken for a adult sweater. We will discuss increasing, separating for sleeves and picking up button bands. At the end of this class you will have an adorable baby sweater and the skills needed to tackle an adult top down sweater pattern. $80, materials sold separately.

CHUBBY CHIRPS: LEARN THE MAGIC LOOP
Tuesday, April 23rd, 6:30-8:30pm; In this fun class learn the magic loop technique for knitting in the round while making an adorable springtime Chubby Chirp! This pattern for a toy bird is a perfect way to learn how to use a long circular needle to knit in the round. These finished toys would make a great gift, or you can string a few together to make a mobile, or a give them to your favourite cat for hours of play. You will need 30-40 yards of worsted weight yarn in your main colour, a small amount of a beak colour and a 32” 4.0 mm circular needle. $40, materials sold separately.

SOCKS FROM THE TOP DOWN
Friday, April 19th AND Friday, May 3rd, 6:30-8:30pm; (Four hours total) In this class we’ll work through the basics of knitting a top down sock including how to turn the perfect heel. In the first class we will make a mini-test sock out of worsted weight yarn. You will go home and work on your first sock weight sock. In class two we will troubleshoot any problems and talk about how to close the toes. Pre-requisite skills: Knit & Purl, K2tog & SSK decreases. Materials: For test sock: small amount of worsted weight yarn (50g) and 4 mm needles for working in the round. For finished socks: 2.5 mm needles for working in the round, sock weight yarn. $80.00 includes patterns; other materials sold separately.

MAGIC LOOP SOCKS FROM THE TOE UP
Wednesdays, June 12th AND 26th, 6:30-8:30pm (Four hours total) There are few projects that are quite as versatile as socks – they are wonderfully portable projects and make beautiful gifts. In this class we’ll work through the basics of knitting a toe up sock with an afterthought heel. You will also learn the magic loop technique for knitting in the round, which is my preferred method for sock knitting. Pre-requisite skills: Knit & Purl, K2tog & SSK decreases. Materials: 2.5 mm 32” circular, sock weight yarn. $80.00 includes pattern; other materials sold separately.*
TRIANGULAR SHAWL
Tuesday, May 14th, 6:30-8:30pm; In this class we will discuss the principles of triangular shawl construction and knitting. Focusing on the simple Age of Brass and Steam shawl we will conquer increases and a simple lace pattern to make a beautiful shawl for chilly spring and summer evenings. You will need 200-400 yards of dk weight yarn for this project and a 5 mm 32”circular needle to accommodate the stitches. $40, materials sold separately.

FINGERLESS MITTS: CABLING WITHOUT A CABLE NEEDLE
Tuesday, June 11th, 6:30-8:30pm; When making small cables in your knitting, working with a cable needle can be cumbersome. In this class you will learn how to cable without a cable needle while making the popular TTC mitts. We will also talk about increasing for the thumb gussets. Homework: Before the class you must get the yarn and pattern for the mitts and knit the cuff. Materials: TTC mitts kit (2 skeins Koigu, pattern), 2.5 mm needle for working in the round. $40, materials sold separately.
